Relocating to a new city and especially a new state, can be very overwhelming. There are a few things you need to know about Denver. We are a mile high (5280 feet), for several days prior to your arrival, please drink at least 3 bottles of water every day. Many times my relocation families do not drink enough, and experience altitude sickness after a couple days of looking for homes. The first signs of altitude sickness is, dry mouth, chapped lips, and your tongue may feel larger than it should be. Once you get here, continue to drink plenty of fluid to avoid this feeling! ~ In July 2009, Denver passed a new law --- no texting or emailing while driving. If you are caught, you will get a ticket! ~ If you plan to list your property, there needs to be a carbon monoxide detector within 15 feet of any and all legal bedrooms. ~ You can turn right on red lights, except for those intersections where it is posted you cannot do so. ~ Effective August 1, 2010 - a new state law went into effect that mandates all children to be restrained in a booster seat up to the age of 8 years old. Under 1 year, children have to be in a rear facing car seat, and truly prefer up to the age of 3. From the age of one through four - (up to 40 pounds) to be in a rear-or forward-facing child seat with a harness in the backseat of the car. ~ in Aurora it is against the law to warm up your car unattended. This is to protect your car from being stolen. A little bit on Denver - we have 300+ days of sunshine, and many days with just plain blue sky --- not even a puff of a cloud. When you go out, you should think of wearing sunscreen.
